The Golden State's coastline, mountains, and woods provided resilience and natural beauty while Californians experienced difficult times during the pandemic. California's parks and beaches became a haven for anyone looking for some sunlight, a good workout, or a vacation from the never-ending news cycle.
All of the state's beaches and parks are available without limitations now that the most challenging months appear to be behind us. Even visitor centers, museums, and day-use areas that have been shuttered for the past 15 months are bustling with activity once more.
OuterSpatial, according to Sandoval, provides a simple way for park visitors to be updated about closures, road repairs, weather dangers, and other essential recommendations. She also emphasizes that tourists should not assume that all parks will follow the same rules this summer.
"Every single one of our state parks is different," she explains. "It's possible that each park has its own set of rules, and it's not only about COVID. Some parks, for example, have fire restrictions, so visitors should do their research to see if campfires are permitted."
However, there is still hope for last-minute planners: Faria Beach Park and Hobson Beach Park, both maintained by Ventura County, are among the few seaside campgrounds in California that operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
California State Parks operates no-reservation beach campgrounds at Westport-Union Landing State Beach, Sinkyone Wilderness State Park, and Manchester State Park on the northern California coast.
Just keep in mind that "first-come, first-served" implies that you should arrive early in the day to have the best chance of getting a spot.
